My Expectations
Before I began, I did not think there was any chance I would finish. I had never run more than a mile straight and knew little to nothing about running techniques.
I knew that it would be difficult to stay with and complete this long term goal. School has never been very challenging to me, so I was interested to see how I would handle such a difficult task.
I really wanted to learn about running. My Uncle Rob, who is fifty years old, had run several marathons just weeks before my commitment to this project. I was intrigued that even as an adult, he could push his body to cover such long distances.
I was able to work with Rob more than ever before. He is definitely the uncle I am closest to, but had never spent an overwhelming amount of time with him. We began running at least 3 days a week together as well as running the actual event together. I also got to meet several new people in the Columbus Running Company (CRC) Running Group that I ran with several Saturdays throughout my training.
I thought that I would benefit from the physical activity. Since retiring from sports, I did not participate in physical activity anywhere near as much as I used to. As I have always loved exercise, I found running as a route to reconnecting with that.
